Robert Garland

President & Chief Executive Officer

Robert’s drive and passion for the first responder community has lead him to co-found and develop this organization after seeing firsthand the hardships that are faced both on and off duty. His goal as President is to provide a secure space for first responders and their family to request help in times of need. Currently, he is a decorated detective with the New York City Police Department for the past 11 years where he specializes in complex investigations. During that time, he has developed numerous working relationships with various organizations and charities. Robert has credentials with the Department of Homeland Security, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and is an expert witness to the Office of Special Narcotics New York. Prior to his career, he attended New York Institute of Technology where he majored in criminal justice and played outfield for their Division I baseball program. Robert also volunteers as a baseball coach and AED Director for Massapequa Coast Little League.

Michelle Bocci

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT & CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Michelle is currently an Officer and Comptroller for a public benefit corporation in the state of New York. As the CFO of a $150M corporation consisting of over 160 plus employees, she has custody of all funds and properties of the corporation and is responsible for maintaining accurate books and records, monitoring internal controls and preparing financial reports. She is also a founding partner in a CPA firm in which she specializes in managing client relationships as well as identifying new business growth and development opportunities. As a lifetime resident of Long Island, her grandfather was a dedicated fireman and fire chief who inspired her to become a member of the first responder community in which she has served as a Treasurer for numerous fire districts throughout her career. As Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Michelle will oversee all finance and accounting activities ensuring transparency and accurate reporting.

Lou Bernardi

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT & CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER

Lou is a dedicated patriot with strong ties to the law enforcement and military community and is a former professional baseball player. Currently, he is a coach for the baseball team at a local college. He has been involved in numerous roles throughout his coaching career serving as a head coach, pitching coach, assistant coach, and recruiting coordinator. Lou is a published writer and an active member in various associations, foundations and charities. He has been a guest instructor, specialist, presenter, and speaker for some of the top clinics, showcases, organizations, and camps in the nation. With this being said, his passion to help others and his leadership capabilities have been recognized by many. As Chief Marketing Officer, he will seek to fulfill the mission of our organization.

Kevin Darcey

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT & CHIEF COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Kevin is the Senior Vice President serving as the Chief Communications Officer of this organization. He brings 15 years of law enforcement experience and is currently serving as a Lieutenant in the New York City Police Department. Prior to his career in law enforcement, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Western Connecticut State University where he majored in communications with a minor in criminal justice. While attending WCSU, he was a four-year member of the baseball team. Kevin is the son of a retired firemen (FDNY), brother to a member of DSNY, and brother to Sergeant in the NYPD.

John Eichhorn

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT & CHIEF RISK OFFICER

John has been a certified Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Florida for over seven years. His current assignment is a dual purpose canine handler, as well as a part time SWAT operator for the regional SWAT team. Prior to a career in law enforcement, John attended the New York Institute of Technology where he majored in Criminal Justice. During his time at NYIT, he was a relief pitcher for the college’s Division I baseball team. He graduated with honors in May of 2009. As Chief Risk Officer, John’s experience as a member of the first responder community will help guide the organization to empower those in need.

Timothy Wan

Legal Counsel

TIMOTHY WAN, ESQ. is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Wan Law Group and Smith Carroad Levy Wan & Parikh, P.C. Mr. Wan’s areas of expertise include managing the creditor’s rights and collection law practice, serving as General Counsel to various small businesses in the local business community, and spearheading practice in the area of entertainment law, music law, copyright, and intellectual property. Mr. Wan was admitted to the New York State Bar in January 2001, after graduating from Brooklyn Law School for his Juris Doctor where he was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, and from Vassar College with a double B.A. in Political Science and Theatre in 1997. Mr. Wan is a Past Chair of the Eastern Region of the Commercial Law League of America, a Past Chair of the CLLA Young Member’s Section, past member of the Board of Governors, and President from 2019-2020. He also serves as the President of the New York State Creditors Bar Association. Mr. Wan is a two time Past President of the Infinite Exchange Chapter of BNI, a member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, and a member of the International Association of Commercial Collectors. Mr. Wan is a published author of the New York chapter of the textbook, Judgment Enforcement published by Aspen Publishing, and is a featured columnist and on the Board of Associate Editors for Commercial Law World. He is also the attorney advisor to the Commack High School Mock Trial team, and regularly lectures on topics regarding creditor’s rights, collection law, business change management, improving business efficiency, and legal strategy.

Michael LaLuna

Treasurer

Michael is a certified public accountant with a wide range of experience in areas such as Assurance, Taxation, Entity Formation, Business Structuring, Offers-In-Compromise and Internal Controls. He provides significant tax consulting and compliance services for clients in various industries including private companies with local, national and international operations. He is a current member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Prior to becoming a CPA, Mr. LaLuna graduated from New York Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and subsequently spent 3 years playing professional baseball for various teams including the Detroit Tiger’s organization.

Craig Garland

Chairman of Retired Police

Craig is a retired Detective from the New York City Police Department. He is the recipient of over 30 Medals of Departmental Recognition and has been involved in over 1000 Felony arrests. For years he has committed himself to the Law Enforcement community as the director of the NYPD Police Commissioner’s Softball League, as the USSSA New York State Law Enforcement Director and as the NYSFOP Sports Committee Chairman. For the past 14 years he has volunteered his time to his community as President of Massapequa Coast Little League, the largest program in Nassau County, presiding over 100 teams and 300 coaches. Currently, Craig works as an Active Shooter Tactical Responder for a local school district.

James Reuter

Retired Police Liaison

James is a retired Detective from the New York City Police Department and will be serving Fund The First as the Retired Police Liaison. James has worked in various commands including Transit Bureau, 114PCT, 20 Squad, and retired from the 9TH Squad. Prior to his law enforcement career, James attended Chaminade High School and Adelphi University where he majored in Criminal Justice. James currently works as a Financial Representative for New York Life. He specializes in retirement and insurance planning for First Responders as well as Worksite Benefits for Police/Fire Departments.

Angela Alberti

Chairwoman of Active Medical Field

Angela is a Physician Assistant who has worked in surgical critical care for the last 11 years. She is currently employed at NYU Medical Center where she cares for a variety of different surgical populations including organ transplant. She also manages a group of advanced care providers. Angela attended Sacred Heart University where she obtained a Bachelors of Science. She then attended Mercy College and received her Masters Degree in Physician Assistant studies. Angela is the wife of an NYPD Lieutenant.

Ilena Pastore

Active Nurse Liaison

Ilena is an RN serving patients of Nassau County since 2012.  Her passion to serve the special needs population in non-for-profit group home agencies has been what drives her nursing career.  she is responsible for coordinating the medical care and maintaining optimal health for all of her clients.  She is dedicated and brings forth years of experience to provide services to the individuals she serves.  In addition to nursing, Ilena has obtained a BA degree from Hofstra University with specialization in Communications prior to her nursing career.  Ilena brings forth nursing knowledge in both pediatrics and the geriatric populations.
