NY Tech Baseball Alumni Day

Join us for the annual NY Tech Baseball Alumni Day on October 19th, 2019 to help benefit Matt McDevitt.

Our friend Matt McDevitt, a 31-year-old FDNY member of Ladder 135, has been out of work for almost two years fighting a rare cancer called NUT Midline Carcinoma. Matt and his amazing wife, Jackie, have dedicated their lives to helping others: Matt as a firefighter and Jackie as a Physician Assistant.  They have a beautiful 1.5-year-old little boy, James, and recently had a baby girl. Those of you who are lucky enough to know Matt and Jackie know they are nothing but relentless, positive and most of all resilient fighters.  After multiple surgeries, rounds of chemo and rounds of radiation, Matt was recently accepted into a clinical trial at Dana Farber in Boston. He is currently commuting back and forth weekly to receive treatment.  Matt was a teammate of Fund the First’s Robert Garland, Lou Bernardi, and John Eichhorn at NY Tech.  Fund the First is conducting this fundraiser as a way to provide some financial relief as medical and travel related bills continue to pile up. The stress of unforeseen medical expenses should be the last thing they have to worry about. They are fierce and courageous and never ask for help. It is our hope that this effort will lift some of their stress so they can continue to fight and move forward.

Update:

It is with deep sadness that Fund The First joins the McDevitt Family and the FDNY in announcing the passing of Firefighter Matthew J. McDevitt of L-135 who lost a hard fought battle with a rare cancer on Tuesday October 29, 2019. FF McDevitt leaves behind a wife and two young children. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
